Our Work

Kaleidoscope Creates identifies the needs of our community and creatively develops solutions to implement those needs.

The input of our community has allowed us to determine the following priorities for the next two years:

Creative Afterschool Programming

Kaleidoscope has implemented afterschool programming by supporting Scorpion Bicycle Club—an afterschool program that teaches youth basic bicycle maintenance and group riding skills.

Scorpion Bicycle Club

005 Bike Club Prep

Scorpion Bicycle Club is an after school program for middle schoolers providing group cycling and local rides. Scorpion Bicycle Club allows young cyclists an opportunity to learn the rules of the road, proper bicycling techniques, and bicycle maintenance and repair.

Youth are given weekly opportunities to practice their on and off-road group cycling skills and participate in Weekend Workdays. Additionally, the club goes on end-of-semester and end-of-year bike overnights to nearby cultural, educational and recreational venues.

Each Weekend Workday, our cyclists hone their bicycle building and maintenance skills with the additional support of our partners from the Optimist Club of Las Cruces.

Kaleidoscope partners with Scorpion Bicycle Club to provide volunteers, develop intergenerational relationships, connect bicycle educators with volunteer opportunities, provide food for events and regular meetings, and to support the club as it works toward sustainable programming.

Youth & Family Oriented Activities

Kaleidoscope creates activities such as the Summer Concert Series for youth and families that are accessible, affordable, and facilitate coalition and relationship building

Summer Concert Series

Kaleidoscope Creates hosted a Summer House Concert Series for its fourth year in 2016. The initiative of the Summer House Concert Series is to bring together people from neighborhoods across Las Cruces, and feature local performers. Each concert takes place in a very intimate setting—backyards, living rooms and workrooms in family homes. From folk, to hip hop and soul, the Summer House Concert Series was an uplifting event for the residents of La Frontera and connecting neighbors, whom might not otherwise have a chance to meet and spend time with others in their homes.

All proceeds from the series went to support the performing artists and Kaleidoscope Creates.
